The Old Town Hall in Bourne is undergoing an ambitious programme of restoration, supported by a £3.3 million grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Originally built in 1821, the Grade II listed building is being carefully restored and transformed into a new cultural and community venue for the town.

The completed venue will provide a permanent home for arts, entertainment, education and community activity in Bourne. Alongside restoring the historic fabric of the building, the project will reinstate its clock tower and recommission the original 200-year-old clock, helping to return one of the town’s most recognisable landmarks to its former prominence.

Pyramid Scaffold Design was appointed to develop the specialist scaffold design required to support the restoration work. The scheme included the design of the temporary scaffold and protective roof structure, providing contractors with safe access to the historic building while allowing the sensitive repair and construction work to progress beneath it.

Working alongside the wider project team, Pyramid developed a practical and carefully considered design solution suited to the scale, geometry and heritage requirements of the building. The completed structure was erected by Lysander Scaffolding for main contractor Probus Construction, helping to create a secure working environment around the Town Hall throughout this important stage of its transformation.

The project demonstrates how detailed scaffold design and close coordination between designers, contractors and scaffolders can support the successful restoration of a complex historic property. Once complete, the renewed Old Town Hall will offer entertainment and education for all ages, alongside new employment, volunteering and community opportunities.
